This was the best adventure we've ever taken thanks so much to Sofia, who worked at our hotel, and helped us plan our daily adventures, provided us with incredible service during our meals and became a wonderful friend. I highly recommend …
Enjoyed staying at the ion Adventure Hotel very much! It’s a beautiful space — relaxing, cozy, and comfortable. We really enjoyed the geothermal hot pool, sauna, and spa area — we were there every day because some of our original plans changed due to the weather. Nothing better than watching the snow from a giant hot tub! Perfect wintertime vacation vibes.
Also, the Northern Lights Bar at the far end of the hotel has lots of windows and a great bartender — a cozy spot to relax with a drink and read a book.
The drive from the ion to Reykjavík via Selfoss/Route 1 was so beautiful! In general, the roads around the ion were plowed consistently and in decent condition, considering how much snow was coming down while we were there. (As always, check the road.is website and the weather before driving.)
A few reviews mention a sulphur smell. We smelled it on the drive in, but never smelled it in our room or in the spa area. I think it’s just outside. The pool water, showers, and drinking water didn’t smell like sulphur at all. YMMV but it wasn’t an issue for us.
I only gave this hotel 3 stars instead of 4 because of the size of the pool, and a lack of ‘spa services’. ||If you don’t get bored easily, like I do, or have a book to write, like I don’t, this is the place for you. ||It’s biggest selling …
The hotel is in a great location near the National park with tourist locations, near the lake; the hotel is isolated so it is perfect to relax and also to avoid light pollution to see northern lights. The rooms are comfortable, well …
Having decided on a whim to venture to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, I came across the Ion purely by chance. ||Nestled upon a hill with a commanding view of the surrounding landscape, pictures do not deceive the beauty of this …
Get away from the city and enjoy this oasis of a hotel. Industrial chic style hotel located away from the city or anything else for that matter. Perfect for Northern lights viewing or just relaxation. Most people drive here and make this the home base to nearby activities in Iceland, but we chose it to relax and unwind. There's a thermal pool with steam room but no spa. Northern lights bar. The main dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu doesn't change, and most dishes were good. I would say that after 2 days, the menu gets old. Meals are pricey because you're in the middle of nowhere, so if you have a car, I would suggest eating before or picking up something on the way to the hotel if you want to save money on food. Make reservations for lunch or dinner before arriving at the hotel as the main dining room is not very big. Service with a smile upon check-in, quick and efficient. Dining room staff is attentive. WIFI available. Hiking is available in the immediate surroundings.
Beautiful hotel, in a very remote location. Rooms are cosy but have pretty much everything you’d need. Unfortunately found them too warm and couldn’t regulate the heat without opening the window. The system seems to allow you want the room up but not cool down. The pool and spa were great, particularly in the howling blizzard we had. Service is a little lacking. Basic expectations like handing out a menu when you’re sat down weren’t common place, along with taking orders. Food was very high quality though. The gym really isn’t anything more than 2 cross trainers and some free weights in a pokey room at the end of the corridor. Can completely understand why some people don’t like the place, but if you’re happy to make the most of being so remote and be in the moment it’s totally a place to be!
Great Experience. The location of the hotel is very good - about 45 min drive from Reykjavik - so a perfect spot for your drive back from Golden circle or if you are exploring the areas around. The building is unique - next to several hot springs (some sulfur smell but not bothersome). The rooms are great with good views of the springs and the nature around the hotel. The bar is amazing with floor to ceiling glass windows and great service. The restaurant is decent with good food choices. Will highly recommend.
